Frequently Asked Questions
What is anxiety?
Anxiety is a natural response to stress or uncertainty, but when it becomes persistent, overwhelming, or begins interfering with daily life, it may be time to seek support. Anxiety can affect your thoughts, emotions, physical health, relationships, work, and overall sense of well-being.
How do I know if I need anxiety counselling?
If you find yourself constantly worrying, overthinking, avoiding situations, experiencing panic attacks, struggling to relax, or feeling like anxiety is controlling your life, counselling may help. You don’t have to wait until you’re in crisis—many people seek therapy simply because they want to feel more at peace and better equipped to handle life’s challenges.
What types of anxiety do you treat?
Our therapists support individuals experiencing a wide range of anxiety concerns, including generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, health anxiety, workplace stress, perfectionism, performance anxiety, and anxiety related to life transitions, relationships, or past trauma.
Can therapy help with panic attacks?
Yes. Panic attacks can feel frightening, but they are highly treatable. Therapy can help you understand what triggers your panic, learn strategies to regulate your nervous system, and build confidence so that anxiety no longer controls your life.
Will I learn practical coping strategies?
Yes. While we work to understand the deeper roots of your anxiety, we also provide practical tools to help you manage symptoms in everyday life. Depending on your needs, therapy may include mindfulness, grounding techniques, emotional regulation skills, healthy communication strategies, and ways to respond differently to anxious thoughts.
How long does anxiety counselling take?
Every person’s experience is unique. Some clients experience significant relief within a relatively short period of time, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore underlying patterns that contribute to anxiety. Your therapist will work collaboratively with you to develop a plan that supports your goals.
Can anxiety ever go away completely?
Many people experience significant improvement through counselling and find that anxiety no longer controls their lives. While occasional anxiety is a normal part of being human, therapy can help you develop greater resilience, emotional balance, and confidence so that anxiety becomes something you can manage rather than something that manages you.
Do you offer virtual anxiety counselling?
Yes. We offer secure virtual counselling for clients throughout Ontario, as well as in-person appointments at our Milton office. Both options provide a safe, confidential space to receive support.
Is anxiety related to past experiences or trauma?
Sometimes. Anxiety can develop for many reasons, including genetics, ongoing stress, significant life changes, or unresolved past experiences. Together, we’ll work to understand not only what is happening now, but also the factors that may be contributing to your anxiety, so healing can occur at its roots.
Every Journey Through Anxiety Has a Story
Behind anxiety is often a story.
Sometimes it’s years of carrying too much responsibility. Sometimes it’s painful experiences that taught you the world wasn’t safe. Sometimes it’s a season of overwhelming stress, loss, or uncertainty. And sometimes, it feels like anxiety has always been there.
Whatever your story, you don’t have to face it alone.
At Inner Life Psychotherapy + Healing Collective, we believe healing begins when you feel seen, understood, and supported. Together, we’ll work to understand not only your symptoms, but the deeper patterns that may be keeping you stuck, while helping you build practical tools for lasting change.
Freedom from anxiety doesn’t mean life will never feel stressful again. It means developing the confidence, resilience, and inner peace to respond to life’s challenges in healthier ways.
Whether you’re taking your very first step into counselling or returning after time away, we’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
