Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my teen needs counselling?
Many teens experience stress, anxiety, and emotional ups and downs. Counselling may be beneficial if your teen is withdrawing from others, struggling at school, experiencing persistent anxiety or sadness, showing changes in behaviour, having difficulty regulating emotions, or facing challenges in friendships or family relationships.
Will I be informed about what my teen discusses?
Confidentiality is an important part of building trust between a teen and their therapist. While parents remain important partners in the process, the specific details shared during sessions generally remain confidential unless there is a concern about your teen’s safety or someone else’s safety. Your therapist will discuss confidentiality and its limits with both you and your teen at the beginning of therapy.
What if my teenager doesn’t want to come?
It’s common for teens to feel uncertain about counselling at first. Our therapists focus on creating a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where teens can build trust at their own pace. Many young people become more comfortable after just a few sessions.
Can parents be involved in therapy?
Yes. Depending on your teen’s age, needs, and preferences, parents may be involved in portions of the counselling process. We work collaboratively with families while respecting the confidentiality that helps therapy be effective.
Do you work with anxiety, ADHD, autism, and other neurodiverse concerns?
Yes. Our therapists support teens experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, emotional regulation challenges, school stress, identity development, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. Therapy is tailored to each young person’s unique strengths and needs.
How long does teen counselling usually last?
The length of therapy depends on your teen’s goals and circumstances. Some teens benefit from short-term support during a challenging season, while others engage in longer-term therapy to address more complex emotional or relational concerns.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. We offer both in-person counselling at our Milton office and secure virtual appointments for teens across Ontario.
Every Teen Has a Story
No two teenagers are the same.
Some are carrying anxiety that no one else can see. Others are navigating friendships, family conflict, school pressures, questions about identity, or experiences that have left them feeling overwhelmed or alone.
Many simply need a safe place where they can slow down, feel understood, and discover that they don’t have to carry everything on their own.
Whatever your teen is facing, healing and growth are possible.
Our therapists are passionate about creating a compassionate, supportive space where teens can build confidence, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, and discover hope for the future.
Whether you’re looking for support for your teen or you’re a young person taking the courageous step of reaching out yourself, we’d be honoured to walk alongside you.
